The Artist
"Art and Literature have always been my main interests and it was only natural that my work would combine both elements. Whilst studying Fine Art & History of Art at De Montfort University in Leicester, I was shown how to make books and boxes as part of a Printmaking module and I have been making books as part of my practice ever since.
The Workshop
Everyone who attends the session will be taken through each stage of producing a handbound sketchbook from scratch. The books will be made from leather (other materials will be available), which will be combined with top quality papers suitable for a variety of media (so they can also be used as scrapbooks or project albums). Students will be encouraged to experiment with different closures and to make their book both practical and unique to them. They may also like to bring along their own special papers to incorporate. These may include brown paper, packing paper, old paintings, maps but there will also be a variety available in the studio.
