The Artist
Jessica Grady is an award winning embroidery artist, tutor and author from West Yorkshire. Her work is a colourful and creative exploration of hand stitch and mixed media, and she utilises waste and recycled materials, which are transformed into exciting embellishments. Jessica’s work has been exhibited in the UK, Europe and Asia, and she shares her skills across the UK and beyond through workshops and lectures. Her first book - Stitched Mixed Media was published in 2023 with Crowood Press.
The workshop
This workshop is all about exploring and experimenting with colour, pattern and texture. Jessica will begin the workshop by showing you various ways to add colour and pattern to paper through mixed media approaches using paint, collage and different resists such as bleach, tape and collage. You will build up a selection of patterns and designs which will inspire your stitch explorations later in the workshop. You will then use your textured sketchbook papers to act as an inspiration (or even materials!) towards a 3D embroidered and embellished piece of textile art. As well as traditional fabrics and threads, Jessica will demonstrate how you can use unusual materials such as plumbing pipe, washers and dyed recycled plastics to create your own colourful embellishments, sequins and beads.
One day workshop: 6th April 2025 10am - 4.30pm
